Verandas and pergolas/arbours are often described as one, the differences being only minor. With a revival in the mid 90’s pergolas are usually of timber construction and built in isolation (i.e. not attached to any other building). They are often used in conjunction with climbing plants or hemmed with planters or borders and can be used to great effect in any garden design.
Verandas use similar construction methods but are attached to existing buildings. They are generally built to provide more protection from the elements incorporating roofs and often wind protection in their design.
